BBF Monthly Meeting
Paul McKay Chairman British Business Forum (BBF) welcomed Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa as the guest speaker at the BBF monthly members’ meeting held at the British Embassy on Tuesday evening. Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa is the founder and CEO of Teshkeel Media Group, a company based in Kuwait |
that has a primary focus on creating cartoon and comic superhero characters for Islamic children and young adults. Paul remarked to a packed business audience that Al-Mutawa is best recognized for THE 99 phenomenon, an animated comic book series pointing us all down the pathway of justice, reconciliation and peace.
THE 99 takes the attributes of God in the Qur'an and the western medium of comic book superheroes and combines them into a unique and positive cross-cultural resource that appeals to young people across the world. The creators innovative and imaginative writing has created a space for productive engagement and learning in an area too often characterised by sectarian divisiveness. Paul said “the business genius of Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa has been the way he has navigated his project through the very tricky waters of religious authority and media critique to the point where it is successful enough to be called by Forbes magazine one of the 20 most important trends sweeping the globe.”
